Clare Island Lighthouse was decommissioned in 1965, after 159 years of unbroken service, however, it has since been lovingly restored and renovated into a luxury guesthouse and is available for a short breaks. The lighthouse is a distinctive landmark on Clare Island. It is perched on top of cliffs at the northern end of the island, but its walls can be seen in the distance on the approach to the island harbour.

The property offers a wide range of accommodation, including rooms, cottages, and suites. Each offers an iPod docking station and tea and coffee making facilities. The en suite bathrooms have complimentary toiletries, bathrobes, and a hairdryer. Some have panoramic views of the Atlantic. In the mornings, the Clare Island Lighthouse serves full Irish breakfast, along with healthy alternatives. Guests can also enjoy 6-course seasonal evening meals. Dishes are prepared using fresh and locally sourced produce, from traditional butchers. Clare Island lies off the South Mayo coast, at the entrance to Clew Bay. With spectacular cliffs and woodland, it is ideal for hill walking. The property is just 6 km from the pier at the northern tip of the island. The Clare Island Lighthouse offers sight-seeing tours around the island. Guests can explore the ruins of Grace O’Malley’s castle and the small Cistercian Abbey.
