Set on the rugged Atlantic edge at Ballyconneely, Connemara Golf Links enjoys one of the most dramatic settings in the west of Ireland. Located on a quiet peninsula between Clifden and Roundstone, the landscape blends white sandy beaches, rolling shoreline, and sweeping views of the Twelve Bens. The area is also home to the world-famous Connemara Pony, a breed steeped in folklore that traces its origins to Arab horses washed ashore from a Spanish shipwreck.

The Course & Green Fees 🏌️

Opened in 1973 and designed by renowned Irish architect Eddie Hackett, Connemara is a pure links experience—natural, raw and challenging. The Championship layout combines the A and B nines, stretching over 7,200 yards from the back tees, while the shorter C nine offers its own coastal character.

Green Fee Prices & Availability 🏌️

Wind plays a major role here, with no dunes to provide shelter, but the reward is uninterrupted ocean and mountain views. Green fees range from €220 between April and October and €160 from November to March. The C9 course cost averages €90, or €120 with club hire.

History

Connemara’s creation was driven by unwavering community spirit, sparked by the partnership between course designer Eddie Hackett and local priest Father Peter Waldron. Their shared belief in the rocky Ballyconneely landscape transformed an ambitious idea into reality. Negotiations for land were long and delicate, from persuading farmer Mickey McDonagh to securing final parcels at the last possible moment—even requiring a trip to Boston. Through setbacks, soaring costs and sheer determination, the people of Connemara built a world-class links entirely themselves, proving that belief and unity could shape a legacy.

Clubhouse Bar and Restaurant 🍽️🍷

After a demanding round, golfers can unwind in the modern clubhouse overlooking the Atlantic, Twelve Bens and Grainne O’Malley’s Castle. From breakfast to dinner, freshly prepared dishes, homemade desserts, a full bar and complimentary Wi-Fi create a warm, relaxed atmosphere.
