Christmas Walking Festival (Dec 29th 2010 - Jan 01st 2011)

Christmas Walking FestivalBased in Westport town, this is a weekend of fun combined with healthy outdoor pursuits to work off the excesses of Christmas with a choice of walks to suit the hardened hiker and the casual stroller.

Day 1: Saturday January 1st - High Level walk.

Croagh Patrick Ridge walk from East to West. A walk with a difference away from the normal pilgrim path route. This walk begins with the ascent of Crott mountain, followed by Croagh Patrick and finally Ben Goram.
Walk Details: Ascent 2700 feet, Time 5 hours approx.
Easy Walk Day 1: Burrishoole Bog Circuit. An 8-mile circuit that takes in the Great Western Greenway, the former railway line that ran between Westport and Achill.
Time: 4 hours approx, Height gain: minimal – suitable for all.

Day 2: Sunday January 2nd – High Level Walk.
A 30-minute bus ride south to the car park at Aashleagh falls. Ben Gorm and Ben Creggan are today's objectives. The ridge leading into Ben Gorm offers spectacular views of Killary fiord. Height Gain 2500 feet – Time: 5 hours approx.
Easy Walk Day 2: Connemara Western way. Beginning in the Inagh Valley our route follows old bog tracks, forest paths and finally an elevated section that also affords fine views of the fiord.
Distance: 10 miles – Time: 5 hours approx, Height Gain 200 feet.
