Éigse an Spidéil 2010

Éigse an Spidéil is a festival of music, song and dance and will take place in Spiddal, Co. Galway on the 4 – 7 March 2010.
The Éigse kicks off on Thursday evening at 8 pm in Park Lodge Hotel with a traditional arts show presented by the students participating in the traditional arts course with Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge/Stuidio Cuan (NUIG) and the students of an Gaelacadamh. This promises to be a great evening of traditional music, song and sea-nós singing and poetry - finishing with a session in Hughes Pub in the village.
A Traditional Dance show on Friday 5 March at 8 pm in Park Lodge will be a wonderful energetic mix of dancing from Ira Bernstein from the Southern Appalachian Mountains USA giving a exhibition of ‘flatfooting’ to the music of Riley Baugus of O Brother Where Art Thou fame and Conamara sean-nós dancers.
More serene events will take place the same evening in Boluisce restaurant when the aclaimed poet Biddy Jenkinson will be the special guest at the poetry evening as well as many local poets at 7.30 and a Ceramic Art Exhibition by the very promising young local artist Nuala Ní Fhlathúin will open in The Sliding Rock Contemporary Ceramic Gallery in the Craft Centre at 6.30.
The concert on Saturday night at 8.30 pm in Park Lodge will be a musical extravagance with Ben Lennon & Tony O Connell, Eibhlín De Paor & Connie O Connell and Danny O Mahoney & Gearóid Dinnín where those interested in hearing a feast of the very best of sean-nós singing can do so in Boluisce restaurant where Comóradh Tom Pháidín Tom will take place at 7.30 with special guests – Jimmi Cannavan, Máire Uí Dhroighneáin, Lilis Ó Laoire, Seán Ó Liatháin & Máire Ní Chéilleachair followed by an informal session. Master classes will be given during the festival by Tomás Ó Neachtain (sean-nós singing), accordion (Johnny Óg Connolly) Flute (Eibhlín De Paor), Fiddle (Ben Lennon) & Sean-nós dancing (Gearóid Devane).
A host of local musicians including Johnny Connolly, Marcus Hernon and Charlie Lennon will be heard in the village over the week-end as well as visiting musicians - Colm Gannon, Kelly Geraghty, James & Carol Cullinan, Dermot Byrne, Tom Doherty & John Mc Hugh.
