Galway Americana Festival is an annual festival of Bluegrass music with concerts and sessions throughout a variety of prominent venues in Galway City. The festival line-up includes twenty-five acts taking part over the seven days (13-19 September 2010), plus an associated lecture programme.

As usual, as much as possible of the festival has been made free of admission charges, so there is no overall Galway Americana Festival festival ticket. Tickets for shows with admission charges are available directly from the venues concerned tight up to show time, but advance booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

The wonderful lineup is headed by the legendary, award-winning Jim Rooney. Jim has done so much that even the fine bio on the Festival website can't help omitting some of his notable contributions to bluegrass history: early picking partner of the equally legendary Bill Keith; writer of the first published biography of Bill Monroe; and - as a member of the New Blue Velvet Band - featured artist at the first Athy Bluegrass Festival in 1991.
