Galway Christmas Market (19th Nov - 19th Dec 2010)

Christmas Market GalwayGalway will join cities like Budapest, Frankfurt, Edinburgh, and Vienna in the tradition of hosting a Christmas market this December. The traditional street market, common throughout many cities in Europe is associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent. These markets originated in Germany and Alsace but are now being held in many other countries.

Galway city will be transformed into a winter wonderland with the new Christmas Market in Eyre Square, being held from 19th November until 19th December. It will be a classic Continental Christmas market with over 28 different countries represented, and over 70 stalls selling a wide variety of crafts, gifts, and stocking fillers such as bohemian crystal, wooden toys, scented candles, hand-made jewellery, ceramic mugs, hats, scarves, traditional puppets and Christmas tree ornaments.

There will be fresh hot food and drink on sale including German beer, mulled wine and seasonal food such as mince pies and hot sausages.  Approximately 2/3 of the stalls will be run by foreign traders offering continental style Chrstmas treats for the festive season. The market will also house the all important ‘Santa’s Grotto’ with proceeds going to the ISPCC and Enable Ireland.

Market Opening Hours
