
The Galway Races Summer Festival at Ballybrit takes places this year from Monday, 25th July to Sunday, July 31st and is renowned worldwide for its electric atmosphere, excellent racing and infectious sense of fun.
Celebrities can be seen sipping champagne by the Champagne Tent, the most conservative people can be heard roaring loudly above the crowd as the horses round the bend into the home stretch. The Galway Races is certainly a festival for everyone. The Festival runs for seven consecutive days starting from the last Monday in July each year. Thursday is traditionally the busiest and most stylish day of the week-long Galway Racing Festival. Ladies compete for the coveted title of Best Dressed Person or Most Elegant Hat.
This year there will also be a Galway Race Week Festival taking place from Thursday July 28 to Sunday July 31, at the Galway harbour Festival venue on Dock Road which is set to be an all encompassing entertainment village for families, music lovers, and party goers alike.
Entitled the Galway Races carnival, the venue will cater during the day for families and at night for the race goers and party people of Galway city.
For families, carnival will be home to an action packed funfair complete with 110ft Ferris wheel. Food vendors will be on site catering for all the family's needs with options such as pizzas, steak burgers, plus coffees and pastries. Admission is free, except on Sunday, and opening hours are from 2pm to 6pm.
The Galway Races carnival, comprising a big top with a capacity for some 2,000, will transform each night into a party zone with music and bars. Local and national DJs will start the nightly entertainment followed by a live band to keep the party going.
Admission is free on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, with an entrance fee being charged only for the Saturday night’s line up. The night time concerts will have a strict over 18s policy. Doors open for concerts at 6pm, and for a worthwhile tip of the week, make sure and get there early.
