Ras Chonamara 2010

Ras Chonamara 2010 will include a full weekend of cycling events, and routes have been planned, to take full advantage of the long weekend and the beautiful scenery of Connemara. The participants will cycle into the heart of Connemara and back again. On Saturday, 3rd April, there will be a charity cycle in aid of Galway Hospice commencing at 11:00 am. Participants will have two options an 80km and 120km cycle setting out from Oughterard village heading westwards to Maam Cross taking in Leenane, Inagh Valley, Recess and back to Maam Cross where they’re will be a stop at Peacockes Hotel for refreshments, from there the cyclists will have the option of heading back to Oughterard or turning right for Screeb and back to Oughterard via Shannapheasteen.

Registration will start at 10:00 am and cost €30. On Sunday the 4th of April the first stage of Ras Chonamara will take place commencing in Oughterard Village at 1 pm heading westwards and will turn right at Maam Cross left at Maum heading into Leenaun village left again onto R344 through Gleninagh left onto N59 at Lissoughter and back to Oughterard village for the finish. On Monday the 4th of April we will have a time trial in the morning at 10:00 am commencing at St Pauls Secondary School heading out New Village and turning back towards the town through Derrymoyle and finishing at Camp Street. At 1 pm the second stage of Ras Chonamara will commence in Oughterard village and head westwards on the N59 turning left at Maam Cross and taking the R336. The Ras will take a left and turn back up the Shannapheasteen road at the junction for Rossaveal, back towards Oughterard village and complete three laps of the time trial route around Glann. Sign on for all events will take place at the Connemara Gateway Hotel.
