About the Pre-Famine Self catering cottages

Cnoc Suain is an enchanting pre-famine hill village of thatched and slated stone cottages dating back to 1691. Situated in an Irish (Gaelic) speaking region of beautiful Connemara overlooking a river, a lake, and Ireland’s rugged Atlantic coast, is the charming hillside community and modern hedge school known as Cnoc Suain.

Cnoc Suain, which translates to “Restful Hill,” was founded independently by two local educators, a natural scientist, and a traditional musician. It includes a diverse array of renovated traditional thatched cottages, modern vernacular buildings, dry stone walled fields, two hundred acres of biodiverse rich habitats, native woodland, expansive blanket bogland, and remnants of an ancient past.

The internationally recognized and award-winning workshops, retreats, stays, and learning programs at Cnoc Suain connect and reenergize the mind, heart, and soul while bridging the past, present, and future.
