Our aim is to share the pleasure and excitement of falconry, a fascination that has enthralled people for 4,000 years. An experience of a lifetime, bring your camera!

Ireland’s School of Falconry, established in 1999, is the oldest falconry school in the country and offers a truly unforgettable experience through its one-hour Private Hawk Walks. Located on the spectacular grounds of Ashford Castle in County Mayo, the school invites visitors to engage in a fully immersive and hands-on adventure with its magnificent Harris hawks.
What to expect
From the moment you arrive, you’ll find yourself with a hawk perched on your glove, ready to begin an awe-inspiring walk through Ashford’s manicured gardens and ancient woodlands. As your hawk soars and returns, you’ll experience a remarkable connection with nature. These sociable and intelligent birds are known for their easy-going temperament, making them ideal for first-time falconers and seasoned enthusiasts alike.
Hawk Walks
The school houses the largest and most diverse collection of Harris hawks in the world, all of which are trained in-house. Each hawk is flown daily and remains with the school for life—never sold, always cherished. The welfare of the birds is a top priority, and the school’s high standards and dedication have drawn praise from annual zoological inspections.

Hawk Walks run daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with no preference in timing from the hawks’ point of view. Children must be at least seven years old to participate, and younger ones (ages 7–11) typically share a hawk. While hawks fly well in light showers, prolonged heavy rain may cause cancellations, so it’s advised to call ahead in poor weather.
