Brigits Garden Rosscahill

Brigit’s Garden & Café

Award-winning family attraction in Galway 🌿

The vision at Brigit’s Garden is to connect people and nature. The Gardens are widely regarded as one of the most spectacular in Ireland, set within 11 acres of native woodland & wildflower meadows. In addition to the Celtic Gardens visitors can enjoy the nature trail, an ancient ring fort (fairy fort), thatched roundhouse and crannóg, and the calendar sundial, the largest in Ireland.

There’s a lot of weaving in Brigit’s Garden: a woven fence of living willow, hand-crafted basketwork swings and symbolic harvest baskets surrounding thyme-covered mounds. Most of all, the garden is a weaving together of many people’s creativity, a rich tapestry of individual threads that together create something unique and magical.

Brigit’s Garden is very family-friendly with a younger kids’ discovery trail, Earth Quest challenge for ages 5+, a beautiful Fairy Village, natural playground and lots of opportunity to explore.

Earth Quest 🌍

Visit with your family and take part in the Earth Quest trail solving science based challenges as you navigate the Garden. There are several science-based installations around the Garden including a water engineering play area*, a pedal-power generator, a geodesic camera obscura and a weather station to reveal a few. Families discover, observe and identify things as they explore Brigit’s Garden, recording their findings on our special “Earth Quest” guide.

Natural Play Area

In the natural play area, climb up on the ‘whale’ and slide down, climb the Da Vinci Bridge, run through the willow tunnels and swing on the rope ladders … There’s plenty of natural fun to be had in the Playground, and in the rest of Brigit’s Garden too. Don’t miss the basket swings, stepping logs, see-saw, sitting on the bog-wood throne, exploring the fairy fort, following the secret trail through the woodland, fishing for bugs in the pond and discovering the whispering pipes in the stone chamber!

What to expect

Celtic heritage and mythology

Brigit’s Garden takes you on a magical journey into the heart of Celtic heritage and mythology, making it one of the truly outstanding places to visit in the West of Ireland. Our 4 main gardens represent Celtic fire festivals and are surrounded by meadows sown with native wildflowers, a lake, a fairy fort, and native woodland paths.

A walk through the four Gardens takes you on a journey through the Celtic cycle of the seasons, each garden representing one of the Celtic festivals of Samhain, Imbolc, Bealtaine and Lughnasa. This seasonal cycle mirrors the cycle of life from conception to old age and death. The design weaves Celtic stories with contemporary design to create spaces that are beautiful and tranquil yet inspiring and full of life.

“We live in a world where many people’s lives are increasingly detached from the natural world. My dream for Brigit’s Garden was to create a place where people of all ages could connect with nature in beautiful surroundings and find inspiration, delight, tranquillity and learning as they do so.”
– Jenny Beale, Founder.
