Connemara Adventure Challenge (05th May 2018)

Connemara Adventure ChallengeThe race will take the format of Gaelforce West with 3 disciplines; trail/mountain running (walking and jogging also accepted!), Kayaking and cycling.

The Connemara Adventure Challenge is almost half the distances of Gaelforce West at approx 32.5km in total and it is open to racers of all levels. If you're not quite sure whether you are up to the level of  completing Gaelforce West? Connemara Adventure Challenge is a great way of testing yourself and your ability!

The event is run by Killary Adventure Co. and will be based at the companies accommodation base K2 which sits on the shores of Killary Fjord in Connemara, Co. Galway. This area of the country is stunning, rugged and provides the perfect playground for an adventure race. Below is an outline of what each stage of the challenge involves.

Stage 1: Bog Run
The race starts with a 4km run through the Connemara bog and along a section of the Western Way!

Stage 2: Mountain Climb
This is the mountain climb section. Competitors will climb up one of the foothills of the Maam Turks to an elevation of 342m and we encourage you to take a rest at the top and enjoy the stunning views.

Stage 3: Cycle
The cycling section takes in 2 types of terrain. The first 8km is over forestry tracks through Coillte forest coming out into the Inagh valley. The next 9km is on sealed roads, this is Connemara though so do not expect smooth flat pothole-free roads!

Stage 4: Kayak
The kayaks will be 2 person sit-on-tops so grab a partner (the next competitor to you if racing alone) and take to the Killary Fjord. You will kayak approx 2km towards Leenane along the Galway shoreline.

Stage 5: Run/Walk
There will be 2.5km  road run from where you emerge from the kayaks to the beginning of a section of the Western Way. The final 4.5km will take you along this trail to the finish line at Killary Adventure Centre.
