Connemara Mussel Festival 2012The 2018 Connemara Mussel Festival will take place from Friday 04th to Sunday 06th May 2018 on the glorious Renvyle Peninsula in North Connemara.

The festival, now into it's 13th year will have professional chefs demonstrating the cooking of mussels and other local produce. The amateur and celebrity mussel cooking competitions are a major highlight but there are plenty of other activities too.

Some of these are as follows:
  • Heritage walks with a renowned archaeologist
  • Dramatic presentations and children's storytelling
  • Fly casting classes
  • A country market with local producers offering crafts and food
  • An exhibition of local art
  • Seafood Gala Dinner
The festival will feature an exciting programme filled with leading chefs and cookery competitions, artists, theatre, music, concerts, children’s storytelling, face painting, guided walks and talks for the whole family. The children’s programme includes the ever popular ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ workshops, this year is entitled ‘Where’s Dory?’, and ‘Tegolin’s Tales’, a fun-filled children’s theatrical storytelling experience.

Along with talks from expert gardener Klaus Laitenberg, explaining traditional methods of vegetable gardening, the 2018 Connemara Mussel Festival will share the stories of a community steeped in a rich and vibrant history with fascinating talks given by historians Joan Johnson and Cormac Ó Comhrai and archaeologist Michael Gibbons.

Returning this year will be the artisan market, running over the full weekend and showcasing the finest produce of the west of Ireland.

In the evenings, there will be a variety of music available in the local pubs. The Connemara National Park is close by, as well as beautiful beaches and majestic mountains.

The celebrations will include mussel cooking demonstrations and competitions, walks, talks, theatre and family activities. There will also be a country market, an art exhibition, music and dancing, as part of the events taking place this May bank holiday weekend.
