With Connemara on our doorstep, beautiful forests and lakes to explore in the east of the county and the unique Burren region to the south, the only challenge you’ll have is deciding which direction to head for. What is the cost of camping and caravan pitches in Galway?

On average you can expect to pay the following prices in Galway:

  • Motorhome + 2 adults = €30
  • Caravan + 2 adults = €30
  • Car with tent + 2 adults = €30
  • Family tent +2 adults and 2 kids = €40

Nightly fees are payable per pitch and per capita for adults and children aged 5-17 years. Prices vary depending on the season (low / high).

Where can you wild camp in Galway?
The most popular place for wild camping in Galway is in Dunloughan, Ballyconneely. The area overlooks a strip of numerous beaches and sand dunes and is ideal for swimming and surfing. As this land is commonage and used for grazing cattle and sheep, visitors must respect the land and animals and ensure they leave no trace of there visit, paying particular care to cover in firepits with sand and loose sods.
Wild camping throughout Galway is not strictly legal and is tolerated in many upland and remote areas provided care to leave no trace is taken.
Is it possible to camp in Connemara National Park?
4 of the 12 of the Twelve Pins mountains are located within Connemara National Park boundaries so for hikers looking to take on long hikes with overnight stays, wild camping is a good option and a special way to experience Connemara. In the absence of official campsites, wild camping is the only way to stay overnight in the park. Please take special note of the regulations around camping exclusion zones which can be found on the national park website.
Can you wild camp on Inis Mor?
No, however there is a good choice of new Camping and Glamping sites on Inis Mór offering a budget camping options.
Is it legal to sleep in your car in Galway?

Depending on the circumstances, it can be illegal to sleep in your car but it mainly depends on where you are parked and if it is a public place.
