Another great option to discover Galway by bike is to hire a bike and one of the multiple bike shops located all around the city where you can rent bikes for the day or longer. Travelling through Galway City is often much quicker by bike due to our infamous traffic congestion, so renting a Brite bike is highly recommended. Bike Hire Ireland can provide manual and electric bicycles for individuals, couples, families, groups, and clubs, as well as day bus tour groups. Additional services include gravel rides, road racing, student bike rental, long-or short-term bicycle hire, day and weekly bike rental, kids bike rental, tag-along rental, and trailer rental. On average it costs between €20 and €30 per day to hire a regular mountain bike in Galway. eBikes cost approx €50 per day, however this can be much cheaper with one of the Bike Share providers such as BriteMobility.com or BikeShare.ie
Is it safe to cycle around Galway?
Galway has some bike lanes on the main roads in the city but most would agree that the city is not bike friendly. However there are some lovely routes you can take around the city where you can avoid sharing the road with traffic. The paths following the River Corrib and various canals provide a safe way to explore the city while taking in the beauty of the City of the Tribes.
Can you bring bikes to The Aran Islands?
Yes, Aran Islands Ferries or Doolin Ferries allow you to take you bike onboard for a small fee of approx €10, provided you book in advance. A bike is by far the best way to explore all of the Aran Islands and see all the wonderful sights.
