The Little Cinema
A Vibrant Showcase for Independent Short Film 🎥✨
Founded in 2010 by a trio of filmmaking friends, Little Cinema Galway has grown into a cornerstone of the West of Ireland’s creative scene. This monthly short film showcase specialises in providing a platform for filmmakers of all levels—from absolute beginners to seasoned professionals—to see their work on the big screen. The atmosphere is famously supportive and informal, designed to encourage networking and community building. Each event features a curated selection of short films, documentaries, music videos, and comedy sketches, with the unique requirement that the filmmaker must introduce their work on stage, fostering a deeper connection between the artist and the audience.
Events & Filmmaking Challenges
Beyond its regular monthly screenings, Little Cinema is renowned for high-energy events that push the boundaries of local creativity.

FAQs about Little Cinema Galway
Can anyone submit a film to Little Cinema?
Yes. Submissions are welcomed from filmmakers of all experience levels. Whether it is your first student project or a professional music video, as long as it is under 10 minutes, you can submit it for consideration in a monthly showcase.
How does the 48 Hour Challenge work?
Teams sign up to write, shoot, and edit a 5-minute film over a single weekend. They are given a specific genre, prop, line of dialogue, and shot type on Friday morning and must deliver the finished film by Sunday for a gala screening at the Town Hall Theatre.
Is the event suitable for children?
Most screenings are open to the public; however, as the films are unrated, they can occasionally contain adult language or themes. It is generally advised to check with the organisers if you plan on bringing younger viewers.
