Bens Surf Clinic
Surf Lessons & Board Rental in Clare 🏄♂️🌊
Located in the heart of Ireland’s surfing capital, Ben’s Surf Clinic in Lahinch, County Clare, is a premier destination for ocean enthusiasts of all levels. Founded by Ben Bennett, a pioneer of Irish surfing with decades of international experience, the clinic distinguishes itself through its “coaching-first” philosophy.
Unlike high-volume surf schools, Ben’s focuses on small group sizes and personalized instruction, making it a favorite for those truly looking to improve their technique. Operating year-round on the famous Lahinch Strand, the clinic offers everything from beginner “taster” sessions to advanced video analysis for competitive surfers. FAQs about Ben’s Surf Clinic
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
For beginner lessons, you only need to be comfortable in the water. Most instruction takes place in waist-deep water where you can always touch the bottom. Instructors are always in the water with you.
What should I bring?
Just a swimsuit (to wear under the wetsuit), a towel, and plenty of sunscreen—even on cloudy days, the Atlantic reflection can be strong!
Can I learn to surf in the rain?
Yes! You’re going to get wet anyway. Surfing is one of the few outdoor activities in Ireland that isn’t ruined by a bit of “soft weather.” Lessons only get cancelled if the wind is too high or the swell is dangerous.
About the Surf School
Bens Surf Clinic is the premier surf school in Lahinch Co. Clare. We provide surf lessons from to beginner to advance. Bens Surf Clinic teaches on hard boards with small groups to ensure plenty of learning and enjoyment. We are the only Irish Surf Association approved hardboard only surf school, and provide all gear and hard rental if needs be.

Tip: If you are an intermediate surfer, book a “1-on-1 Private Clinic.” Ben’s expertise in reading the Atlantic swells is legendary, and a single hour of private coaching can often fix bad habits that have lasted years. Also, grab a coffee at a local Lahinch cafe after your session—the surf community here is incredibly welcoming and great for local tips.
