Aran Island Ferries sail to the Aran Islands located in Galway Bay all year round. Daily services depart from both Galway City Docks and Ros a’ Mhíl, a port 23 miles west of Galway City centre. The new Galway City to Aran service commenced in June 2021.

Galway City services depart at 9.30am Daily. Rossaveel to Inis Mór depart twice daily. See ferry timetables to the Aran Islands below.

Aran Island Ferries: Travel Advice

Aran Island Ferries operate a fleet of luxury, purpose-built ferries that vary in passenger capacity to accommodate private charter, as well as our scheduled sailings and ensure that our customers enjoy the best possible service. All our boats (except the Sea Sprinter) have a snack bar serving light refreshments and alcoholic beverages.

  • Passengers travelling from Rossaveel are advised to allow one hour driving time from the City to the Port and must check in 1/2 an hour prior to sailing time.
  • If availing of our Shuttle Bus service which departs from Merchants Rd in the City Centre, passengers are advised to check in 1½ hours prior to sailing time.
  • Irish Free Travel Pass/Senior Smart Pass accepted.

Is parking available at Galway Harbour?

Yes, car parking is available at Galway harbour opposite the entrance to the Harbour Hotel car park. Parking spaces must be booked in advance with the Port of Galway at this link.

Where do I go to board the Galway City ferry?

All passengers must collect their tickets in our Galway city offices (37-39 Forster St) or (1 Victoria Place). Then walk a 15-minute to Galway Harbour (Eircode: H91 E9PR) to board the ferry.

What time is boarding?

All passengers should be ready to board 30 minutes before departure.

Are dogs allowed on the ferry?

Dogs are permitted on the ferry but must be kept on a lead on the outside deck during the crossing.

Can I take my own bicycles on the ferry?

Yes, there are some spaces for bicycles on the ferry, so you should book your space in advance when booking your ferry ticket. The cost for a return transfer of a bike (standard or electric) is €20.00 (€10.00 one way).

Do the ferries still depart from Rossaveel?

Yes, ferries depart from Rossaveel Ferry Terminal as usual and sail to all three islands year-round.
