The Story of Hooked
Hooked on Henry Street is more than just a seafood restaurant—it’s the heart of a remarkable journey rooted in authenticity, family, and a deep respect for the sea. The story begins in 1981, when Iranian-born Ali Jalilvand arrived in Galway and began working on local fishing trawlers. His insight into the fishing industry led him to open a successful prawn-peeling factory, Pisces, and later, the wholesale seafood company Four Leaf Clover in 1993.

Ali’s passion for fresh fish and community connection inspired the opening of Mermaid Fish Mongers on Henry Street—now known as Ali’s Fish Market. From this humble beginning, Hooked was born, blending the finest quality seafood with the warmth of home.
At Hooked, every dish is prepared with the freshest, responsibly sourced ingredients, celebrating the purity and richness of the sea. Guests are welcomed like family, invited to enjoy a warm, inviting atmosphere where tradition meets innovation.
With a strong commitment to sustainability and local sourcing, Hooked is proud to be a steward of the ocean and a cornerstone of Galway’s food culture. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a meal at Hooked is a celebration of flavour, community, and heartfelt hospitality.
