Eastside Arts Festival 2027

May, 2027 (tbc), Galway Events Calendar

Community-led festival for East Galway

The Eastside Arts Festival is an exciting new community-led celebration of Galway City East,  and is expected to run from 6 to 8 May 2027. Funded by Galway City Council’s Creative Ireland Programme, the festival embraces the themes of ‘Home’, ‘Colours’, ‘Listening’, and ‘Movement’ to highlight the rich diversity and unity of Eastside communities, particularly in Ballybane and Doughiska.

The festival aims to foster inclusion, accessibility, and sustainability, creating a space where different cultures and generations can connect through the arts. Events will take place at various community hubs, including Ballybane Library, the Ballybane Community Resource Centre, and the SCCUL Enterprise Centre. The programme offers something for all ages and interests, integrating visual arts, performing arts, interactive workshops, and nature-based activities. Highlights include storytelling sessions in primary schools with Niall de Búrca and Lucy Desmond Kelly, local art exhibitions, a talk on local history, an upcycling workshop, and a lively community food event. Attendees can also look forward to live music and dance performances.

The festival’s programming has been shaped by community input through consultation sessions led by Amicitia earlier this year. By listening to the voices of locals and creatives, the Eastside Arts Festival seeks to build stronger community relationships and celebrate the vibrant cultural mosaic of Galway’s Eastside. Additional support comes from Galway Library Service and Galway City Partnership.
