Galway Motor Club Hill Climb Weekend 2026

The Galway Motor Club Hill Climb Weekend, is expected to return for mid- July 2026, and is set to be a thrilling celebration of speed and skill. Hillclimb events are time trials held on closed roads, where competitors race individually against the clock on challenging courses with fixed start and finish points. The goal is simple: the fastest driver to the top wins. Various classes cater to cars with different engine capacities or performance capabilities, ensuring a diverse and exciting range of competitors.

Hillclimbs typically span around one mile, though some courses are longer and feature a notable altitude difference between the start and finish lines. Similar to hillclimbs, sprints are run on flat courses but share the same adrenaline-pumping pace.

Competitors will be treated to an incredible display of vehicles, from single-seaters like the Lant, Formula Opel Lotus, and Judd-powered Pilbeam, to powerful 300bhp MKII Ford Escorts, Darrians, Starlets, Minis, Novas, and historic cars. The event embraces a wide variety of vehicles, as long as they meet safety scrutiny standards.

To compete, drivers must be aged 16 or older and possess a competition car that meets Motorsport Ireland’s technical requirements. They must also have a racing suit, gloves, balaclava, and helmet that comply with safety regulations. Join the excitement and witness a weekend of high-speed action!
