Connemara Mountain Walking Festival 2027
Autumn walking festival in Connemara ⛰
The Connemara Mountain Walking Festival is expected to run from Friday, April 30, to Sunday, May 2, 2027, in Leenane.
This festival offers an immersive experience on the picturesque shores of Killary Harbour, allowing participants to explore the majestic mountains and sea along the Wild Atlantic Way. Meticulously organized walks cater to all ability levels, guided by professional, highly trained mountain leaders and local mountain rescue volunteers.
The objective is to discover the region’s stunning scenery, rich history, and captivating geology. The fully inclusive experience provides transportation to the walks, maps, comprehensive insurance, and a relaxing finish of tea and scones. Attendees are encouraged to enjoy the shared camaraderie, with a “Céad míle fáilte” (a hundred thousand welcomes) awaiting all in this beautiful corner of Connemara.

About the Walking Festival
Each walk is guided by qualified, experienced guides and covered by public insurance. Another unique element of the festival is that the local farmers get involved with guiding the walks and share their vast knowledge, folklore and history of the land and provides participants permission to access areas that are not normally open to the public.
While the festival is organised during the busy autumnal season, preparing for the coming winter, for the farm families on whose lands we will be walking, most can still find the time to accompany us on the walks, something that can be very rewarding for all. We encourage our walkers to interact and mingle on our walks as some of the best experiences you will have on a Connemara mountain is when you share it with others.
One other very interesting thing, especially for people who are not native Irish speakers, is to get your tongue around the names of the mountains, but don’t worry as a crash course will be provided before we set off.

Aim of the walking festival
Our goal is the let you experience what this fabulous community has to offer while getting close to some of the best scenery, nature, history and geology along the Wild Atlantic Way. The walks we organise are designed to suit all levels of ability and let you fully immerse yourself in the wild Connemara landscape. We want you to enjoy our area as much as we do.
We are fortunate to have professional guides who not alone are highly trained mountain leaders, but are passionate about what they do to help make your experience all the more worthwhile.
Transport to and from starting and finishing points will be provided as well as tea/coffee & scones at various local businesses at the end of each day.
