A film festival for feature films and shorts, The Galway Film Fleadh, Ireland’s leading film festival, is a six-day international event, held every July and welcomes a diversity of films from around the world. 2027 marks the 39th Galway Film Fleadh, and the central goal of the festival remains unchanged: to bring together audiences and filmmakers within an intimate environment and share a common experience. In-person screenings will take place in the heart of Galway city, at the Pálás Cinema and Town Hall Theatre.

Oscar® Qualifying Shorts: The Fleadh will host screenings for more than 130 Irish and international short films, all competing for the festival’s Academy Award-qualifying accolades.
Bingham Ray Award: Spotlighting the future of cinema by recognising outstanding emerging talent across acting, writing, directing, producing, and cinematography.
The Galway Film Fair: Directed toward industry professionals, this major film market runs alongside the public events, offering crucial networking, co-production panels, and financing meetings with international delegations.

Where do the film screenings take place?
The public festival screenings and filmmaker Q&As are held across two primary venues in Galway city centre: the Town Hall Theatre at Courthouse Square and Pálás Cinema on Lower Merchant Road.
Are the public allowed to attend the Q&As?
Yes, standard screening tickets include full access to any scheduled filmmaker and cast Q&A sessions immediately following the film inside the theater.

The Fleadh is very much a filmmaker’s festival and attracts directors, actors, cinematographers and artists of all generations and cultural backgrounds, who present their work before their peers. Celebrating it’s 39th birthday in 2027, the central goal of the Galway Film Fleadh remains unchanged to bring together audiences and filmmakers within an intimate environment and share a common experience, the wonder of cinema. The Fleadh’s diverse audience is made up of the general cinema-going public, film buff’s, student film makers, industry professionals and invited guests. Events and screenings take place online instead of the usual venues at the Pálás cinema, Town Hall Theatre, IMC Galway and Eyre Square, Galway.
