The Medtronic Streets of Galway 8k Road Race event takes place on Saturday 8th August 2026 at 7pm and celebrates its 40th edition this year. Galway’s most popular athletic event is the highlight of the athletics calendar in the city since 1986, the event has grown into one of the most prestigious road races in the country. It starts at The Claddagh and winds its way through the city’s streets, following a course out around Salthill, before taking in the delights of the prom on the way to the finish in The Claddagh at South Park.

The event is scheduled annual on the for Saturday of the weekend following the August Bank Holiday at 7pm.

The Streets of Galway 8K is a road running race around Galway City and was first held in 1986, and it has been held every year since.
Where does the Streets of Galway go?
In Galway City’s Claddagh neighbourhood, the race begins and ends. The race’s route follows streets and roads through the city’s centre and then out through the districts of Salthill before making its way back to Southpark in the Claddagh for the finish line.
What is the cost to enter the Streets of Galway?
Up to early June, an Early Bird entry will cost €20 + processing charges. The regular entry fee of €25 will be applicable plus processing fees. This price includes a fantastic race t-shirt, a number, chip timing, and the chance to race through Ireland’s friendliest city.
