Is the water cold?
Irish waters range from 8°C in winter to 16°C in late summer. Scuba Dive West provides thick, high-quality 7mm semi-dry suits or drysuits to ensure you stay warm and comfortable throughout your dive.
Can children learn to dive?
Yes! Children can start with a “Bubblemaker” session in a controlled environment from age 8, and they can work toward their Junior Open Water certification starting from age 10.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, especially for boat dives and training courses. During the peak summer season (June-August), it is recommended to book at least 2 weeks in advance to secure your spot.

About the Dive Centre
Purpose built all weather dive centre located on the sheltered Killary Fjord in Connemara. Our location are ideal for beginners to fully qualified divers. Courses provided on: beginner diving, open water diver, advanced open water diver, medic first aid, rescue diver, speciality courses, Boat Diver, Multilevel Diver, Drift Diver, Dry Suit Diver & much more. Full PADI certification available.
Tip: Even if you aren’t a diver, their “Powerboat Snorkel Safari” is a fantastic way to see the Connemara coast from the water. For qualified divers, the shore dive at the centre is excellent for macro photography—keep an eye out for nudibranchs and blennies in the rocky crevices. Also, the drive to the centre via the “Sky Road” or through Letterfrack is one of the most beautiful in Ireland, so leave extra time for photo stops!
