Connemara Smokehouse
Irelandâs First Food ĂconomusĂ©e đđ
The Connemara Smokehouse, situated at the edge of Bunowen Pier in Aillebrack (H71 KR29), is a legendary destination for seafood lovers and the oldest smokehouse in Connemara. Founded in 1979 by the Roberts family, this award-winning artisan producer specializes in traditional, handcrafted smoked seafood, including their world-renowned organic smoked salmon and wild line-caught tuna.

As Irelandâs first Food ĂconomusĂ©e, it offers more than just a shop; it is a cultural heritage site where visitors can learn about the ancient art of fish smoking. The heart of the operation is “Old Smoky,” a traditional kiln first commissioned in 1946, which infuses the fish with a delicate beechwood flavor. Whether youâre stopping by the seaside cafĂ© for a smoked salmon platter or taking a guided tour to see Graham Robertsâ master hand-filleting skills, the smokehouse provides a true “taste of the Atlantic” in one of Irelandâs most spectacular coastal settings.
