Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim 2026
Annual swim across Galway Bay 🏊
The annual Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim is expected to take place this year on 18th July 2026 across Galway Bay in aid of Cancer Care West.
2026 marks the 21st year of the event which starts at Aughinish in Co Clare and finishes at Blackrock in Salthill. Over 120 swimmers will take to the waters in what is one of Ireland’s longest one-day swims.

The new format of swimming 13km in your own location, in your own time / day has allowed people, wherever they were in the world to take part in the Galway Bay Swim, and, if last year’s swim is anything to go by, that will happen again.
Since the swim began, 800+ people have swam the Bay with participants from all over the world from as far afield as Australia taking to the water for last year’s installment of the event.
