15 Mar, 2025 (tbc), Galway Events Calendar

Tribesmen Head of the River returns

Galway’s premier rowing spectacle, the annual Head of the River, it expected to return to the River Corrib on Saturday, 15 March, 2025. Marking its 36th anniversary, this event serves as a beacon, signifying the transition from the winter training period to the commencement of the rowing regatta season.

A highly anticipated return graces the St. Patrick’s weekend as the Tribesmen Head of the River resumes its place in Galway’s sporting legacy, making its debut since 2013. Sponsored by Boston Scientific, this year’s event promises thrills for both local and visiting crews alike.

Boasting a course that spans three miles, starting at ‘the cut’ near the mouth of the Corrib and concluding beneath the Quincentennial Bridge, boats vie against each other and the clock. The action unfolds across three events, commencing at 10am, 1.30pm, and 4pm, showcasing the prowess of the rowing crews.

Spectators are invited to witness the spectacle from the picturesque banks of the Corrib River, immersing themselves in the dynamic atmosphere.

Prize giving and after party

Following the riveting races, prize-giving ceremonies will be held at the University Bar from 6pm, followed by a post-event celebrations at the Roisin Dubh from 8pm, ensuring an enjoyable evening for all.
