Lasta National Arts Festival

1 - 2 Jun, 2024, Galway Events Calendar

A festival for young people by young people

Galway, renowned for its vibrant arts scene, is gearing up to host the third Lasta National Arts Festival from June 1 to 12. The Town Hall Theatre, among seven venues nationwide, eagerly anticipates a showcase programmed by and for young people.

This innovative festival celebrates youth culture with an eclectic lineup curated by 19 young enthusiasts across Ireland, including three talented individuals from Galway: Lucy Birmingham, Tara Mackin, and Noel Minogue. Birmingham, a theatre artist and technician from County Meath, joins Mackin, a theatre maker from Co. Louth, and Minogue, a theatre practitioner with a background in marketing and administration.

Under the mentorship of theatre artist Maisie Lee, these curators promise an ambitious fusion of theatre, music, comedy, dance, film, photography, and immersive experiences. Highlight events in Galway feature DJ Shampain’s live soundtrack to the silent cinema classic “Irish Destiny,” Brokentalkers’ acclaimed production “Masterclass,” and the comedic stylings of podcasters I’m Grand Mam.

With anticipation building, ticket sales open in May via www.tht.ie, offering audiences a glimpse into the dynamic program awaiting them at the heart of Galway’s cultural landscape. Lasta 2024 is poised to ignite creativity and captivate audiences, affirming Galway’s status as a cultural hub for generations to come.
