How to get the most out of the Macnas Halloween Parade?
Get a good viewing point: To get a good spot to see the parade clearly, it is advised to get there early. Usually, the parade starts at 5.30pm from Fisheries Field beside the Cathedral so you would need to be there around 5pm before it gets too busy. If going to view the parade from the end of the parade route you could still find a good spot in the Claddagh at about 5.30pm as it can take abut 45mins for the parade to wind its way through town.
Watch from near the end of the route: The streets in town are quite narrow so there is less room for spectators, but from Leonardo Hotel (formerly Jurys) or Monroes Tavern to The Claddagh, space opens up so you’ll have a better chance to find that perfect viewing point.
Wrap up and dress in warm clothes: You will be standing around outside for up to 1.5 hours in Galway in October, so I will get chilly, so a warm jacket, scarf, woolly hat and gloves are recommended.
Keep the kids happy: Children are likely to have less patience for all this standing around so some treats may go a long way to keeping them sweet!
