Coffeewerk + Press Café

Speciality coffee and international design

The goal of Coffeewerk + Press is to explore the world of specialty coffee while showcasing the crossover between Irish and worldwide design and art. A tiny company on the west coast of Ireland, Coffeewerk + Press seeks to engage the community in conversation about design and coffee. The café is housed in a stunning 400-year-old townhouse on Quay Street in Galway City.

Collaborating with a wide range of international roasters who uphold ethical business standards, most of their roasters engage in direct trade, which involves paying both individual and collective farmers throughout the world more than market value for their coffee beans. This ensures that growers who use socially and environmentally responsible farming practices receive appropriate recompense. Coffeewerk + Press want to ensure that every cup of coffee they serve represents their enthusiasm for their ethical business.

Along with coffee, they collaborate with a wide range of design firms worldwide and to introduce their distinctive styles and art to the west of Ireland. Many of these designers manufacture handcrafted goods as the antithesis to mass production; in the knowledge that doing so supports local economies and ensures high quality outcomes that are pleasing to the eye and the locality.
