Do I need my own racquet to start?

The club shop provides a racquet restringing service and sells professional gear. Beginners attending coaching sessions can often borrow equipment for their first few lessons.

Is there an age limit for joining?

Not at all! GLTC has active members ranging from “Tots Tennis” (age 4+) to senior members in their 80s.

Can I play if I am just visiting Galway?

The club is member-focused, but if you are a member of another affiliated club, you may be able to arrange a “visitor pass.” It is best to contact the office in advance to check availability.

About the Racquet Sports Complex

Galway Lawn Tennis Club is a large racket sports complex located in Salthill Galway, close to the famous Salthill promenade overlooking Galway Bay. GLTC has 9 tennis courts in all, 5 outdoor and 4 sheltered from the elements within their state of the art sports dome. There are also 6 international level squash courts with underfloor heating, and 7 dedicated badminton courts.

The family area has table tennis and championship sized snooker table which are available to both members and guests. The changing rooms include sauna facilities.

Visitors are welcome to use the facilities at a guest rate. Equipment is available to borrow for all three sports free of charge. Visitors are welcome to attend club nights and social days with the opportunity to play with the locals.

Sports schedule

    • Tennis: Monday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.
    • Badminton: Monday and Thursday evenings.
    • Squash: Contact GLTC who can schedule a game for you with a club member.
    • Bowling Club within the main Badminton Hall on Monday and Friday 9:45am to 12:00 noon (all year round).

Tip: If you’re new to the city, the “Social Tennis” and “Club Nights” are the fastest ways to meet people. These sessions are designed to mix players of all levels in a fun, non-competitive format. Also, don’t miss the annual **Galway Open**, where you can see some of the country’s best talent in action right here in Salthill!
