Discover West Clare
Explore the Epic Atlantic Coastline 🌊
With an untamed rural landscape blending seamlessly with the wild Atlantic Ocean, where better than the coast of Clare to seek fun and adventure.
Waterports 🏄♀️
Depending on the Atlantic’s mood, ocean lovers could harness wave or wind power on a surf or kite board on Lahinch’s famous strand. If the day is calm, a paddle in a sea kayak might be in order. And for those who really like to throw themselves in at the deep end, scuba diving might be on the agenda at one of Kilkee’s world famous sites like Biraghty Mór and Biraghty Beag which boast fantastic wall diving.
Fishing and Dolphin trips 🐬
If that’s not enough excitement, deep sea angling for white pollack, ling, ray, tope and even blue shark, might tickle your fancy. One incredible location to try this is at the foot of the Cliffs of Moher. Then again if you’d prefer to just admire creatures of the deep rather than catch them, a boating trip to see the resident bottlenose dolphins in the Shannon estuary might be more your thing.
Pools and Aquarium 🐟
Even when you’re back on terra firma, the watery theme might continue – particularly if you have juniors in tow. A trip to Lahinch Seaworld, complete with pool, leisure centre and fascinating aquarium, or to Kilkee’s Waterworld with its water slide are likely to be a hit.
Cycling 🚵♀️
And for those who like to explore using their own leg power, there is an excellent variety of biking and walking routes. For example, four new biking routes were recently unveiled near Doolin ranging from 18km to 47km and offering wonderful views of the countryside and coast. The route between Miltown Malbay and Doolin even made it into the Lonely Planet’s ‘Best in Travel guide!

West Clare: Places to Eat 🍽
And when you’re spent from all that activity, Clare offers plenty of ways to relax. How about a delicious meal while watching the sunset in Lahinch, a seaweed bath in Kilkee, a music session in one of Clare’s famous pubs, or maybe just a stroll along the Spanish Point’s sandy beach?
