Peacocks Maam Cross

Maam Cross

An Teach Dóite meaning “the burned house” in Irish

Maam Cross is a settlement at the crossrods on the main Galway to Clifden road in Connemara. The road north leads through the beautiful Maam Valley surrounded by the Maumturk mountains, while the road south leads to the gaeltacht and villages of Screebe and Costelloe. Situated on a crossroads, it has been the perfect Connemara meeting place and is renowned for the big October Fair where all manner of goods are for sale from ducks, hens and rabbits to donkeys, ponies and horses as well as the usual fair day stalls. Smaller fair days are held year round on most weekends.
